Contentment is our natural state
and we should be using every moment of our lives
in order to get back to it.
In society, we complicate our lives,
distract ourselves from stillness,
and take ourselves further away from that state of joy.
Ask yourself what you can do each moment
you feel clouded with anger, sadness, fear, anxiety, discomfort,
to get back to that state of peace.
Do you need rest?
Or to play your favorite song?
Maybe talk to a friend who will lift you up?
Do you need to quit your job?
Or do you just need to lick the spoon?
Do you need fresh orange juice instead of bottled?
Do you need to eat a nice kiwi?
Maybe go for a long walk through the forest.
Sit by a river with your feet in the juicy grass.
Give the trees a scratch, like you are petting a cat,
and actually pet the cats that come up to you in the street.
Hug goodbye that new person you just met
even if it feels uncomfortable.
Smell the flowers,
pee in the woods,
and walk at a slightly slower pace
just to take in the scenery.
That state of peace isn’t as far away as we think.
It doesn’t require some profound epiphany or external awakening.
Sometimes
we just need to lick the spoon.
