“Supposed” To Be

Maybe the reason why

we always are searching for quick joys,

fast fixes,

reaching for sugary foods,

or doing drugs

is because we tell ourselves

that we are not supposed to feel

how we are actually feeling.

We think we are supposed to feel happy,

and calm,

and grateful,

and never sad,

or upset,

or ungrateful.

And we need those quick fixes

to get us to whatever state

we think we’re supposed to be at.

But what if we weren’t supposed to be

anything other than

what we are

right now?

What if just admitting

and accepting

that whatever we are right now

in this moment

is simply what we are supposed to be?

And feeling and accepting

what we actually are

is the only way

we will get to that state of joy

or calmness

or gratefulness

that we ever so desire?
