Remember the story of the wolf
huffing
and puffing
and blowing the house down?
And how the house of straw blew down
when the big bad wolf huffed and puffed
but the house of stone stayed?
The wolf may be strong
and loud
and show his teeth
and growl,
but the stone house will never budge.
The stone house is so quiet,
so warm on the inside,
with its doors open
and chocolate chip cookies
and beds to sleep in.
There may be scary stories about the wolf,
but all of those stories are told within the house.
The truth resides in the house
where there is gathering
and belonging.
Big, bad wolves will not convince us to move,
but a stone house will.
Wolves do not hold the power,
even if they are loud and scary.
The power is in whatever the wolves want to blow down –
whatever the wolves are afraid of,
and whatever is secure.
No matter how loud or scary the huffs and puffs are,
a stone house will last far longer
than a big, bad wolf.
