Self-Help, From Everyone Else

We don’t really need these poems.

You don’t really need to be listening to that wellness podcast.

Doesn’t the idea of “self-help” being something you buy

and read about from someone else

contradict the entire essence

of the idea itself?

You don’t really need that ten-step guide to a perfect life,

and you definitely do not need lose any weight on your body.

Everything that you need to feel better,

to love more,

to appreciate what you have,

and to enjoy every moment,

is not a secret hidden in a book or article.

It’s already inside of you.

And it’s waiting for you

to listen.

It’s waiting to give you

the calmness and acceptance

that comes at no price

and that is infinite.

Reading books

or writing poetry

or taking a hot bath

or playing that spa Spotify playlist

definitely can help bring us into a more calm state of mind

and remind ourselves of our inner wisdom.

But we have the power to access it

all on our own.

All you have to do

is breathe,

listen,

and know that no one and nothing else

can get you there

but yourself.
