Impermanence

Let go of your body, mind, possessions, loved ones,

for they could go at any time.

But also hold them as close as possible

and give them the most incredible gratitude and presence

because you could, too, go at any time.

Your loved ones have chosen to embrace challenges with you

and to nourish you with love

because they have chosen you

for their short lifetime on this earth

just as you have chosen them.

And now, even if your mind goes,

if your body, possessions, or loved ones go,

they all will be forever burning inside of you

and within everything else.

All of the things that make you, you –

the love between you and your family,

the scar on your right leg,

the pet dog you had as a child –

will never leave you.

Even if everything of yours is fleeting,

the rest of us will continue to carry it.

Your impermanence is permanent in this world.

You, an ephemeral organism, have and always will exist

in all the “you’s” in the future,

all the “you’s” in the past,

and all the “you” in your loved ones,

even if you

and everything else

comes

and goes.
