Think of a younger loved one.
Think of your younger sister,
or your younger brother,
your cousin,
your friend,
your child.
They don’t want you to be perfect.
If you did everything right,
then that means they would have to, too.
You are who they are looking up to,
and when they inevitably fail
or fall short of their expectations
trying to be as perfect as the person they see you aiming to be,
would you want them to get down on themselves about it?
Would you want them to be cruel to themselves?
Would you want them to wish they were any different from who they are now?
Of course not.
We want our young loved ones to be exactly who they are.
We want them to love themselves,
have compassion for themselves,
and to enjoy their lives.
So be intentional about sharing your humanity.
Show your struggles, your insecurities, your bad days.
Not for yourself, but for the younger ones looking up to you.
Because it will teach them to see that their role models are not perfect either.
It will teach them to admit to their bad days
and to enjoy them anyways.
