Instincts, Our Talking Ancestors

Whenever cats leave their litter box

why do they always scratch the floor?

Why do they do that?

I think when we do things instinctually

without thinking about it,

it’s because our past selves are talking to us.

The versions of ourselves

from thousands of years ago

are trying to tell us something.

We thought that action was necessary for survival

and so we remembered.

So now every time I instinctually do things

I now know it’s only because my self one thousand years ago

is trying to tell me something.

The things I wish I didn’t do

even if I “know better”

or even if I wasn’t aware of myself doing it

or even if I had no inherent logical reason for doing it

are just my beautiful ancestors taking the reigns.

Who knew there was still a line of communication with her?

What other things are ourselves from long ago

trying to tell us?
