Lemon Seeds

To squeeze the marrow out of life

like we squeeze the juice out of a lemon

means we will inevitably encounter some seeds along the way.

But these seeds are nourishment, too –

they hold wisdom, like a kernel full of secrets –

we just need to stop throwing them away.

Just because we don’t want them in our cakes now,

doesn’t mean they aren’t purposeful.

We will eventually squeeze each juicy drop from their abundant fruit.

We will make tarts, cakes, and lemon bars so deliciously sweet.

We just need to see the beauty in the before.

So rather than be constantly craving for the juice,

accept, keep, and tend to each seed –

every lost, useless, unworthy, dirty, forgettable seed –

safely into the pockets of your heart.

That is how we will get the sweetest cakes.
